Adjectives are paintbrushes of languages. They add details to nouns or pronouns. Among all the types of adjectives, Quantitative adjectives describe the number of noun or pronoun.

Definition of Quantitative Adjectives:

“These describe the quantity i-e, numbers of nouns or pronouns and add information to the sentence.”

Quantitative adjectives examples:

TYPES OF QUANTITATIVE ADJECTIVE:

Different types of quantitative adjectives can be used in various contexts.

Cardinal numbers:

Cardinal numbers include one, two, three, etc. These show the numbers.

Ordinal numbers:

Ordinal numbers represent the order of things and show the position. These include first, second, third, etc.

Fractional numbers:

Fractional numbers represent fractions. These describe the part of a whole. These include half, quarter, one-third, etc.

Indefinite quantifiers:

They represents an unknown quantity. These include some, many, several, and few.

Definite quantifiers:

Definite quantifiers represent specific amounts. These include all, each, both, every, etc.

Usage:

Use with Countable Nouns:

Use definite quantitative adjective with countable nouns. These can be used in singular and plural forms.

For Example:

  • Two shirts
  • Five apples
  • Three cats

Use with Uncountable Nouns:

Use Indefinite form with uncountable nouns, These are used as discrete units.

For Example:

  • Some water
  • Much sugar
  • A little patience.

Comparison:

These provide comparisons. They have superlative and comparative forms.

  • Less

Position in a sentence:

They are placed before the noun.
